What is the full form of BDS

BDS: Bachelor of Dental Surgery

BDS stands for Bachelor of Dental Surgery. It is a medical field of surgery related to mouth and handling the injuries related to teeth, jaw, and gums. It is a five year undergraduate degree program in dentistry to prepare students for successful career as a dental surgeon. The five years of dental course is divided in two parts:

• Four year training
• One year compulsory internship

The BDS course is not only restricted to treating tooth decay. Now a day it is mandatory because people are becoming more aware of their overall appearance.

Future after BDS

After the successful completion of the BDS degree, a student can gain practical experience through internship at any private or government dental clinic. He can run a dental clinic after gaining practical experience.

A qualified surgeon can also get a job of dentist in state or central government hospitals. Indian army also recruits the dentist in army hospitals. Depending on their interest and ability, MDS degree holders can apply for pursuing Master degree.
